Scotland
Cheers from Scotland!
I'm currently in the great country of Scotland this summer for my 5 week intensive photojournalism field school and I'm loving every minute of it! It's nice to get out of the comfort zone and experience something completely foriegn. Scotland is beautiful and there's definitely a lot of things that are different here. Here's been my top 10 observations:
1. They drive ity bity cars, use the public transportation system a lot, have double decker buses, trains, funny looking taxis and drive on the other side of the road - and they all run on clean desiel fuel. Crazy!
2. Every building, castle, house and pub looks like something straight out of a Harry Potter movie.
3. They beer here is amazing. Ice cold soda means slightly chilled with no ice. And the whiskey still tastes like whiskey!
4. The weather here was suppose to be cool and damp and I've only seen rain 3 times since I've been here. It's been outrageously hot and I've sweat more than I'd like to admit. They say Scotland is in a draught because they haven't seen a substantial amount of rain in 17 days AND they haven't had a hot summer like this in 400 YEARS!!! (The US isn't even that old!)
Sheesh.
5. I've learned the great game of cricket. It's silly but the guys who play it are hot.
6. I've had a great time hanging out with the people in the program here and it's been fun to experience Scotland with them.
7. Glasgow has a scary subway system.
8. Did I mention it's beautiful here?
9. There are bagpipes galore everywhere and funny men dressed like robots on the streets of Edinburgh - they're called buskers.
10. I've learned some new words:
que = line (please stand in the que)
caravan = a mobile home park
Well, I hope you enjoyed it. I sure did. There's still a lot more happening and the great part is I've only been here for 2 weeks! I still have 3 more to go! The work load is crazy and sometimes stressful but I can honestly say that I have the coolest major in the world. I'm going to take pictures for a living. That's sweet and I dare you to come up with something cooler.
Okay, that's it for now. I don't really think many people read this so I don't know why I spend so much time writing - but what the heck. It's for your enjoyment and for me to storytell.
Tah Tah.
