Ode to Spring
I love the Spring. It's my favorite time of year. It's beautiful at Ohio University in the Spring, that's for sure. All you Missourians don't know what you're missing until you COME AND VISIT ME and see for yourself. For goodness gracious, it's hard to get friends from home out here in the O-H-I-O. They don't know what they're missing. I don't think they understand the meaning of a beautiful campus because there is nothing like Ohio University in Missouri. I know. I've been to a lot of campuses in Missouri. None compare. Sorry.
So, Spring quarter has been great thus far. First up, I did some fishing last weekend on my friend's boat out on Dow lake. I caught a HUGE crappie. Torrie, JJ, and Sara all caught a host of other fish and we cleaned and cooked them afterwards. I know some of you are thinking, "Ew." But, seriously it was good.
I've been playing intramural tennis with my best friend, Sara. We're currently 1-1 and we're quite a team. I honestly love tennis. It's a new favorite sport. If you're in Kansas City in June and want to play ...I'm your girl. Also, I've finally found the joy in running again. I've been running and lifting for a couple of weeks now and it's been delightful. Soccer made running not fun. Not that soccer wasn't fun, but running wasn't fun. It was competitive, which is okay but not when you're done with competitive soccer. It's a hard mentality to break. I find myself not running because when I go out, I compete with EVERYONE. Everyone on the bike path, or with my watch, or just with myself. I could never just jog. But, surprisingly, I've been able to break the trend. I ran in a 5k last Saturday and it gave me something to run for and I wasn't worried about finishing fast. Instead, I was able to runat a consistent, comfortable pace. Beautiful. Plus, it doesn't hurt to get new kicks. Yeah, they're sweet. Mizunos for life.
Other than that. I've been taking a lot of pictures. I'm in a documentary photojournalism class and it's sweet. I love documentary photography because I feel like I can use my creative license - it's fun. I'm currently working on a long-term project on "porch culture" in Athens. I'm thinking about going outside the city though. Hopefully I shoot well and don't make it a boring project of porches. Wish me luck.
I've been reading a lot. I have a ton of books by the author, Anne Lamott. She's really good. She talks a lot about her life and about faith, but it's in a real way. Also, I finished the book, The Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell. So good. I highly recommend it. I'm still trying to finish up The Pilgrim Progress, but it's taking forever. Give me about a year. Also, I'm reading a book by a Campus Crusade for Christ staff member, Finding Common Ground. Really good. It's helping me in my Contemporary Religious Movements class because it really talks about the skewed mentalities Christians can have when approaching non-believers.
What else, what else. Other than I enjoy writing and reading, taking pictures and hanging out with friends - not much is going on. I wish I had more time here. It's going so fast and a lot of good friends are going to be graduating soon. Tear. I'm thankful that I have another quarter but I seriously don't know what I'm going to do with my life. I mean, I know what I want to do with my life but I don't know the first step yet. Patience my child, this I know. The Lord is good.
Eternally cute and spontaneous.

1 Comments:
1. "Finding Common Ground" is one of my favorite books EVER. I LOVE it.
2. I've been getting into Anne Lamott lately, which is something I've meant to do for a while. I just finished listening to Traveling Mercies on tape (I have an hour commute to work daily!), and I'm reading Bird by Bird (which I've checked out of the library like a thousand times, but I finally just broke down and bought it). And so far, I'm totally enjoying it.
